God’s Unconditional Love

I recently took a “Life of Prayer” class at Unity Church of Denver. One of the assignments in the class was to write my own “Daily Word” entry on a topic I am passionate about.  Daily Word is a long time Unity periodical, with daily inspirational readings.

Being new to Unity (we just started attending the church this summer) I wasn’t sure if my entry would match “Unity lingo”, yet I did want to write about a topic I felt strongly about.  Here it is:

LOVE

I Am Love.

God’s love for us is unconditional. In the world we live in this is sometimes difficult to realize, with “conditional” acceptance all around.  Who among us has not been let down by a friend, fired from a job, stung by a divorce, or had to deal with some type of rejection in all of its different forms?

God’s love is different.  When I remember Spirit is always accepting of me, and that Spirit lives inside of me, I am at peace.  In a world of seeming hurt and pain I can always return to my safe house of God’s unconditional love.

Sometimes I forget.  When I choose to focus on a hurt, I temporarily lose my connection with Love.  The way back is forgiveness, of others and of myself.  Then I can return once more to my fountain of joy within. I am Love.

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” – Luke 23:43

I shared my reading in the class and I received a good response – our minister (David Howard) even asked if he could include it in the church’s weekly newsletter (I said yes)

The exercise not only reaffirmed my belief in God’s unconditional Love, a belief I have made reference to in several of my past book reviews, but it also encouraged me as a writer to put my words out there.  Sometimes my thoughts will resonate with people.  Sometimes not.  This time they did.
