Remembering Martin Luther King

This week’s remembrance of Martin Luther King reminded me of when I saw his statue in the U.S. Capitol rotunda last spring (pictured to the right).  The black stone figure was cold and lifeless.  I suppose statues are there to remind us of great words from historical figures.  For me I am more inspired seeing old film clips of Dr King.  I found a copy of his “I have a dream” speech which I have shared with you below.

As I looked at Martin Luther King’s statue I wish I could have met him when he was alive.  I was only 11 years when Dr King was assassinated, yet I remember he was a dynamic and courageous leader.  His statue really doesn’t do justice to the man he was.  The video below does.
