Tweeting For Spiritual Growth

You probably have heard of Twitter, the popular Social Media platform, where people can share messages of 140 characters or less over the web.  Much to my surprise, I discovered Twitter can be used as a tool for spiritual growth!  Below I’ll briefly describe how I came to use Twitter and give you tips on how you can tune in to the spiritual community on Twitter like I have.

My Story

I first became aware of Twitter in the Spring of 2009.  I found some people use Twitter to tell people EVERYTHING about their day, such as “I’m in Starbucks now!” “I’m baking cookies!”  Others use Twitter to sell things, unfortunately as another vehicle for spam.  I had no interest in using Twitter in these ways.  My wife and I own a travel agency, and I instead chose to use Twitter to post interesting little tidbits about travel.

After a few months of using twitter for our business, I thought “what if I post different quotes and thoughts I have about spirituality?”  I am passionate about spirituality , and I saw twitter as an outlet for sharing what I am learning.  I didn’t want to use our business twitter account for that, so I created a new twitter id (“calmwithin”) where I could post messages about spirituality. Soon I found lots of other “spiritual” tweeters, also, and received great value from reading their “tweets”.

Over the months I would post different personal growth messages to twitter under my “calmwithin” identity.  Quotes from books I read,  inspirational quotes from speakers I have heard, or quotes from others on twitter.  If I get a message that really resonates with me, I send it out as a “tweet”. My list of people following me as “calmwithin” grew and grew where today I have over 4,400 followers!  In 2013 I changed by “calmwithin” handle to my name “TimLarison”.

My Favorite Spiritual Tweeters

There are many “spiritual” tweeters out there – some famous and some not so famous.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Well known:

Wayne Dyer
Michael Beckwith
Deepak Chopra
Debbie Ford
Louise Hay
Cheryl Richardson
Marianne Williamson

Not as well known yet very wise tweeters:

nametagscott
innerdelight
JaqStone
bridgebldr
joyfrequencies

I find I’ll receive just the right “tweet” that speaks to me at different times during the day from one of the above people.  Some examples:

“Every morning, visualize yourself living your most creative, most joyful, most loving and lovable best. Hold for at least five minutes.” (Marianne Williamson)

“Hold no grudges and practice forgiveness. This is the key to having peace in all your relationships.” (Wayne Dyer)

“Miracles happen everyday, change your perception of what a miracle is and you’ll see them all around you.” ~ Jon Bon Jovi (joyfrequencies)

“Each day, we awaken to a new beginning. What is Spirit seeking to express through you now?” (Michael Beckwith)
