My Top Five Books for 2013

Tim LarisonAnother year for me of reviewing books on this site – 30 in all!  In addition to regularly reviewing books for Hay House as part of their blogger program, I had a number of other authors contact me to review their works, too.  It was difficult to pick just five as I read many fine books this year (mostly from the self help and spirituality genre).  Here’s my list (click on each title to see my original review):

archetypes5.  Archetypes: Who Are You? by Caroline Myss – I was not familiar with archetypes before I read this book.  I found out what my archetype was (a link to a web test is included where you can find out yours, too).  The description was accurate that gave me new insights into myself.

mindmed4. Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof You Can Heal Yourself by Lissa Rankin.  Can a positive attitude have an impact on your health?  Lissa Rankin thinks so, and in this book she backs up her claim from personal experience and with loads of research.  More than just a book on health, though, I liked Rankin’s spiritual insights on what she calls “your inner pilot light”. Since reading the book I signed up for her Daily Flame email list – its one of the best sources of daily inspiration I have come across.

11 Rings3. Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success by Phil Jackson.  What’s a sports book from NBA coaching legend Phil Jackson doing on this list??  Well, I am a big sports fan and I was intrigued by Jackson’s behind the scenes account of his 11 NBA championships.   11 Rings is not just a sports memoir.  It also tells of Jackson’s spiritual journey from his fundamentalist Christian background to zen buddhism.  How Jackson lived his spirituality in the ego driven world of pro basketball was fascinating to read.

tunein2. Tune In: Let Your Intuition Guide You to Fulfillment and Flow by Sonia Choquette.  How do you tell the difference between the often subtle messages of your intuition from the loud clamor of your ego?  Sonia Choquette gives us a valuable guide to distinguish between the two, full of easy to read anecdotes from her own life and from her counseling patients. I was going through a down period before I read this book.  Choquette’s wise counsel got me back on track.

earth angels1. Assertiveness for Earth Angels: How to be Loving Instead of Too Nice by Doreen Virtue.  Have you ever been called “too nice” like I have?  Doreen Virtue’s book is for you.  Earth Angels is filled with practical tips on setting boundaries and not letting others take advantage of your loving nature.
